Pattern design, especially creating visually harmonious art for spaces is a unique and very exciting part of design, I find it dynamic, playful and incredibly inspiring.
Repetition and rhythm are almost obsessively important elements in my life. Even as a child, I was extremely drawn to repeating patterns. I could spend hours looking at cracks, stripes, waves, spirals and circles on both natural and artificial structures and surfaces.
Patterns give me a sense of security and satisfaction - a kind of subconscious tension release - both visually and emotionally. Patterns are hard core meditation, I think, not just for me. For myself, being an observer, an attentive audience, patterns are a great help in organising and structuring information.
My design style, my design choices are also influenced by this obsession. I use rhythm (from random to progressive) as a powerful tool in my compositions to maximize the impact of the message, the emotions I want to evoke, and the interactions I want to achieve. Geometry helps me in most of my works. Geometry allows for the creation of dynamic compositions, overall visual sophistication through playing with the complexity of the motifs, while creating a special balance of elegant, structured look with a timeless yet contemporary feel.
In a fairly predictable way my love for repetitive patterns also reflects on the role music plays in my life: Steve Reich, Philip Glass, Brian Eno, Nils Frahm, KMRU… all times, while working, concentrating, relaxing. Balancing perfection.
